SECTION 1. MEMBERSHIP
A. REQUIREMENTS
1. Membership is open to any man or woman who is 21 years of age by April
1st of application year.
B. DUES
1. The dues of the membership shall be the amount of
One Hundred Fifty Dollars ($150.00) per person per year or the prevailing rate and are due by April 1st.
C. APPLICATION
1. Prospective members are encouraged to watch and/or practice on horseback with the posse before making decision on submitting an application.
2. All prospective members are required to submit membership dues at time of application to join the King County Posse.
3. Applicants are required to attend at least four (4) practices on horseback with prospective posse horse after applying for membership.
4. Applicants will be notified after fourth practice session of acceptance status for that year.
5. Notification may include denial of membership, complete acceptance as a member or limited acceptance with the request to continue to practice with the group another year before being allowed to perform the actual drill with the group. Those members may or may not be allowed to participate at parades until further evaluation.
6. Both horse and rider will be judged by the entire membership on suitability for membership on the King County Posse.
7. If after prospective member has submitted application and dues and is then deemed unsuitable as a member, dues will be returned in full.
D. INSURANCE
1. The King County Posse purchases club insurance through ARG which entitles each member the opportunity to purchase the required supplemental liability insurance through ARG at Nineteen Dollars ($19) per person or at whatever the prevailing rate is for that year.
2. Members are not required to purchase club supplemental insurance as long as they can show proof of own liability insurance for equestrian events.
3. Payment for supplemental insurance or proof of own insurance is due along with membership dues.
SECTION 2. UNIFORMS
A. SHIRTS
1. Black shirt (minimum of one)
Shirt will be of an adopted uniform western design. Shoulder patches provided by club will be uniform in design and placed as per shirt diagram.
B. PANTS
1. Black jeans of a uniform blackness to match group members.
C. BELT
1. Black western design leather belt with silver buckle.
D. BOOTS
1. Black in a western cowboy style.
E. NAME TAG
1. Name tag shall be 3”L X ¾” W black with white lettering and a white
boarder. Name Tag shall be worn as per location per shirt design. (left chest) Name tag shall have “MEMBERS NAME” on top in all capital letters with “KING COUNTY POSSE” below also in capital letters of a smaller size than the name.
F. HAT
1. Black felt, western pleasure in design with a crease.
G. GLOVES
1. White Gloves
Gloves may be either white cotton or nylon and must be of uniform design to
conform to the style being used by all members.
NOTE: Uniform items are subject to change as styles and availability dictate.
SECTION 3. TACK
A. SADDLE
1. Black leather , square skirted, western saddle with tapaderos and silver adornment.
B. BREAST COLLAR
1. Black leather, 4 inches wide with neck strap and silver adornment.
C. HEAD STALL and REINS
1. Black leather with silver adornment.
D. BIT (Style rider option)
1. Any bit to be used to have control of the horse at all times.
E. FLAG BOOT
1. Black leather with strap to be attached when flag and pole are used.
F. FLAG POLE WITH TIP
1. Type of material and length determined by riding membership.
2. Tip shall be brass in material and spade shape in design.
3. Tassle shall be gold in color and length uniform throughout.
G. FLAG
1. Flag shall be an American flag, 4’ W X 6’ L with gold fringe around edges.
H. CORONA PAD
1. Color – Black and white border uniform in width.
2. Size – Must be large enough so saddle fits into pocket of pad and just
barely touching inside of border. Black and white border shows on
all four edges.
I. HOOF BLACK
1. Black hoof polish required on horses hooves for all parades.
NOTE: All tack is subject to approval of the members of the Equipment Committee.
SECTION 4. HORSE
A. TYPE
1. Palomino gelding (accepted by Posse)
2. Palomino mare (accepted by Posse)
B. COLOR
1. Palomino coloring with white mane and tail.
C. SIZE
1. Minimum 14.2 hands
2. Maximum 16.2 hands
D. BREED
1. Horse may be of any breed (Quarter, Morgan, Arab, etc.)
2. Horse registration not a requirement.
3. No gaited horses allowed.
All aspects of the horse’s confirmation, size, height and other qualifications must
be approved by the KCP Horse and Equipment Committee before use in events.
SECTION 5. DUTIES OF OFFICERS
These duties are in addition to those, as stated in the By-Laws of the King County Posse.
A. CAPTAIN
1. Assigns members to stand point at the Ellensburg Rodeo Grand Entry.
3. Assigns remaining rider positions for Grand Entries at rodeo or events.
4. Assigns members to different events in rodeos or gaming events at the
Ellensburg Rodeo during competition (with assigned member’s approval)
5. Assigns line-up positions for parades.
B. FIRST LIEUTENANT
1. Responsible for making sure the KCP tape and music box is at all functions
when deemed necessary.
2. Responsible for assigning members the rotating task of bringing
refreshments to drill practice.
3. Accompanies KCP Captain to all participating event meetings.
4. Takes over duties of Captain when Captain is unavailable.
C. SECOND LIEUTENANT
1. Responsible to assist the First Lieutenant with assignment of the drill
practice refreshment schedule.
2. Takes over duties of First Lieutenant when First Lieutenant is unavailable.
Standing point is an honor and determined by attendance at practices and performances, rider confidence, horses ability to stand motionless as riders pass, and seniority (number of years in the KCP as a riding member),
